If you understand the basic plot structure of a hero’s journey then you know that sometimes the hero faces a major setback or challenge. As the story plays out you realize the hero may have never discovered their superpower or reached their full potential without this major setback or challenge. Jim Kwik’s origin story follows that of your standard hero’s journey. At the age of five Jim suffered a head injury that severely hindered his ability to learn and left him struggling to keep up in school. Jim’s love for superheroes saved him as he learned to read with the help of comic books. Over the years Jim improved his ability to learn to a degree that it could almost be called a superpower. Jim has since discovered that it is not a superpower and that everyone has the same potential to learn at an accelerated level.
