Investing In These Four Areas Of Life Will Change Your Future

4 Areas Of Life To Invest In To Change Your Future

Starting and growing the company The Life Edge has required significant investments. Investments of time, money and most importantly personal growth. We have had to learn new skills and become more intelligent, better people to overcome some of the challenges we have faced. There is no way we would be here today if we had not made the choice to invest in ourselves personally.

Through this process we have learned that there are four major areas of life to invest in that can significantly change the path of your future. These four areas are:

  1. Physical
  2. Financial
  3. Mental
  4. Emotional

As we start to dive in, understand that this list is based on our personal experience. That includes all of our successes but also all of our failures. Reading this, you may start to feel overwhelmed and that there is no way you can work on all of these at once. That’s okay and we don’t expect you to because we didn’t either. We would recommend that you tackle these in order as written.

Remember that these are investments and they take time. These are not overnight fixes. A great future is built by good, small decisions repeated over and over again.

Physical

The first area of investment is your physical health. We are starting with this because it is one that you can start immediately. Some examples would be; go for a run, do some pushups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, etc. This allows you to implement changes in your life immediately where you can begin to see results in the next few weeks.

You may need some accountability through this stage and that’s ok. You can hire a personal trainer, invest in an online training program or nutritional coach. (Click HERE for a great list of programs and coaches to help you through this step).

As you start this process you will show yourself that you are capable of change. This is also where you will learn to be comfortable being un-comfortable. Changing your life and your future for the better is not easy. It will take a lot of strength and stamina. That is why you need to begin by becoming physically healthy.

As you invest in your physical health you will start to develop self-discipline. This will lead you to developing new healthy habits. Your confidence will build and you will start to become happier with the person looking at you in the mirror. This confidence eventually poor over into other areas of life. That leads us to the next part in this journey.

Financial

You have gained some traction now. The next step is to set up your financial future for success.

To start, take some time and give your current financial situation an honest assessment. Are you in debt, living paycheck to paycheck? Maybe you have a great job but have not setup any retirement accounts.

It does not matter where you’re at financially, you just need to know the numbers. You have to establish your starting point so that you can begin to move forward. Take the emotions out of the equation and allow yourself some time to setup a financial plan. Decide what you want your future to look like and start moving towards it.

This process may be difficult. That is why we started with the physical side of life first. This allowed you to build some momentum to carry into the next area. Looking at your finances may be terrifying for some. That is why it was important to get yourself comfortable being un-comfortable.

If you are in debt, force yourself to live on less than you make and get those debts paid off. If you are not in debt, set up a retirement account and every month invest part of your earned income into that account. This is where you can implement the self-discipline developed earlier to aid in this process.

Make a habit out of good financial decisions. Spend less than you make, save for a rainy day and invest for your future.

Mental

Investing in this area of life for some may be difficult. This is because there is no tangible way to measure the return on this investment. It is easy to track your physical and financial improvements. It is harder to quantify the return from mental investments. For that reason a lot of people fall off at this stage.

At this point you have already made some great changes in your life. These changes are already going to lead to a drastically different future than the path you were currently on. If you continue on the journey through mental health, it can get so much better.

This is the point where you start to really grow your knowledge base. Start taking the time to learn new things. This can be done through reading, taking an online course or finding a mentor. (Check out our other post: How You Can Find A Mentor Today)

Make a habit of learning new things. Schedule time into your week just for this. Use that self-discipline you developed earlier to keep yourself moving forward.

Start taking your skills to a new level. If you are a sales person then read all the books you can that relate to sales. Learn what you need so that you can begin to live up to your full potential.

Once you have accomplished that then move on to the next topic that interest you. Maybe finance, coding, astronomy, it does not matter. Just don’t ever stop learning and growing.

Emotional

By this point you have probably realized that you have some limiting beliefs. These are thoughts that may have been holding you back your entire life. Thoughts of scarcity or that you are not good enough to live the life of your dreams.

It’s time to deal with them.

Do this by journaling or talking with yourself in the mirror. Let yourself see the limiting beliefs on paper or listen to yourself speak them out loud. Im taking about the little voice in your head that says, “your not good enough, you could never have that life.”

Are these beliefs true? Who told you that or what do you think made you believe it?

Look back on what you have already done. Look at what you have accomplished. You can do anything you want if you are willing to continually stay disciplined and choose to do the hard things that make you uncomfortable. Life isn’t promised to be easy but it can be simple by putting one foot in front of the other and just breathe. Trust yourself that you can get through any emotional battle.

Know that this is one of those moments where forcing yourself to get un-comfortable and deal with some hard things will change everything. You will look back on this moment later in life and thank your past self.

As you grow in your emotional health, set aside time weekly to check in an re-center yourself. You can do this by adding in a yoga or meditation session to your routine. (click HERE for a list of yoga/meditation online courses) Even just a few moments of silence to yourself to clear your mind and remember what you are capable of will work as well.

All this will help you realize that you are a person who honors your commitments to others but most importantly honors your commitments to yourself. This is the benefit of self improvement that aids you in living a happier life. You are no longer caring around the burden of negativity.

Final Thoughts

You get to decide what your life is like. We believe that if you constantly invest in yourself then in return you will live a truly great life. Take charge of your physical, financial, mental, and emotional health and watch how your future unfolds.

Or stick with what you said: you will change your future.

Cheers!
